Can your snacks be fitness friendly?

Can your snacks be fitness friendly

For all those fitness freaks out there, the most difficult of things for you all could be to control their urge (or rather) cravings for snacking. When we are on a mission to lose weight and stay fit, it becomes imperative that we all follow a rather strict diet regime. In most cases, following a diet program may seem to be too overwhelming particularly if you are among those people who love to snack. If you are among those who always like to munch on to something (well, there are people who tend to focus and concentrate more when they have little goodies on their desk) then fret not, there are some snacks that won’t make you feel any guilty because like they say, these are the fitness friendly snacks!

The smart way to snack for a healthy and active lifestyle

Quite contrary to what many people may believe, regular snacking is a sign of healthy body. Basically, this indicates that your metabolism is functioning right and your food is getting digested quickly which is why you feel hungry and you want to feed yourself some snacks. While regular snacking is good, regular snacking can only be a healthy practice and prove to be beneficial for your body if you choose your snacks right.

What are the fitness friendly snacks and how much should you have them?

Fitness friendly snacks are all those quick bites that are easily available, delicious as well as balanced, which means that they don’t underplay your exercise and nutrition regime. Women who lead a rather active life should include about 100 to 200 calories of these fitness friendly snacks in their everyday diet. And, in order to make your snacks work for you, have them at least twice (in between meals) a day. This will ensure that your energy levels don’t drop and you remain active and fresh all day long.

Here are some of the most commonly loved and eaten fitness friendly snacks –

  • Fruits and yogurt

Fruits and yogurt

This is a delicious and a very healthy combination. Fresh fruits are loaded with carbohydrates that give you some quick energy. Also, fruits like pineapple, kiwi, oranges and other citrus fruits are packed with Vitamin C, which is a powerhouse of anti oxidants and proves to be a powerful nutrient for your joints and connective tissues. Yogurt makes your fruit salad healthier with proteins and healthy fats. This snack meal is perfect for mid-day.

  • Savory snack dip

Hummus is a great source of protein and a wonderful snack food. You can have your hummus with fresh veggies or the whole-grain pita chips, either way you are giving your body a wholesome nutritious snack to munch on.

  • The healthy muffins

The healthy muffins

Muffins (yes, the healthier ones) are a quick and easy way to give yourself to some guilt-free sweets. Make your muffins with peanut butter instead of the regular butter and you can add all the good stuff to make your muffins tasty and energizing.

  • The no-brainers – eggs

The no-brainers – eggs

The boiled eggs, of course. One egg contains about 1.6 grams of saturated fats and a whole lot of nutrients. The protein, vitamin A, vitamin B12 and the antioxidant lutein, all of which work together to nourish your eyes and skin. Egg yolks may be a little high on cholesterol but the fact is nothing is bad when you have it in moderation.

Apart from the above, you can always give a try to soups, porridge’s and the healthy nuts. Snacking is not always a bad thing. In fact, we say it is good. Just be careful with choosing your snacks.
